No blood-sucking gauze came out

- Feb 05, 2018 -

The use of medical gauze bandage wound is our most common and most conventional hemostasis, the mechanism is that the gauze absorbs the water in the blood, so that blood cells, clotting factors such as concentration, thereby promoting blood coagulation. However, the problem of excessive absorption of blood by traditional medical gauze has been neglected for a long period of time, which often leads to excessive bleeding in the wound and in severe cases, the patient may still die due to excessive blood loss. Reporters learned from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, our scientists after a large number of tests, developed a non-bleeding hemostatic gauze.

Traditional medical gauze is used to pressure the wound blood vessels in the wound dressing, so that the blood flow out of the wound slowed down, but the traditional gauze will absorb a lot of blood. Zhao Ning, Xu Jian, a research fellow at the Institute of Polymer Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, collaborated with Prof. Shao Longquan from Southern Medical University to design a new concept of hemostatic material from the viewpoint of hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of materials (gauze) Traditional gauze in the course of excessive vomiting problems. They use nanotechnology to build long-chain paraffins into micro-nanostructured layers on the surface of conventional gauze fibers, converting conventional gauze from a blood-like substance to a blood-thinning substance that can not be infiltrated by blood on the treated gauze surface; they then Further, the combination of thinning blood gauze and conventional gauze double layer, the use of the lower conventional gauze to promote blood coagulation, the use of the upper layer of gauze to produce negative pressure to prevent blood wetting and infiltration, so as to achieve the purpose of effective hemostasis and reduce blood loss . A large number of animal experiments show that, compared with the traditional medical gauze, the new hemostatic gauze can significantly reduce the amount of blood loss of about 60%. In addition, the use of new hemostatic gauze in the case of carotid hemorrhage can make the experimental rat survival time by about 40%. This gauze is expected to fight for more rescue time for patients.
